The Conway Stewart Winston is a large and well-made pen, somehow impressive and understated at the same time. Pulling it out and writing with it certainly makes a statement, but without the look-at-me pretentiousness of the Montblanc 149, a pen of similar size but less reassuring construction. I enjoy its size and considerable weight.
And I mostly enjoy its appearance, with the exception of the nib. The problem is that in the on-line catalog the CS logo on the nib appears large, dark, bold and impressive, but in reality it is small, faint, off-center and not well applied. I waited to order because I thought the older “flag” nib was unimpressive. The new CS logo nib really sold me but on mine the logo is barely discernible. I’m not returning it, but I bought the pen because of the way the nib is pictured on the website. I doesn’t look that way in reality.
Apart from this reservation, I am happy with my purchase.
