Duro Silver Storm

A WWII Navigator's Conway Stewart Pen Unearthed

In September 1943, two B‑17 Flying Fortresses collided over the Essex countryside, killing 20 young American airmen. Eighty‑one years later, local historian Sue Lister uncovered a Conway Stewart No. 236 fountain pen from the wreckage—a burgundy‑and‑black marble relic believed to have belonged to navigator 1st Lt Arthur Ross Moore. This pen, a symbol of wartime resilience and British craftsmanship, will soon be displayed at the RAF Hornchurch Heritage Centre, preserving a story of bravery and fleeting wartime bonds.

Queen Camilla Signs Historic Declaration with Conway Stewart

Queen Camilla’s swift signature at Stationers’ Hall on 15 July 2025 links today’s monarchy to a guild that has tended the written word since 1403. The Stationers’ Company, once candle‑lit scribes beside St Paul’s, later policed printing under a Tudor charter and rebuilt after the Great Fire. Now, as the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers, it trains new talent and preserves its rich archive, while fellow member Conway Stewart still crafts pens by hand—a living thread binding past and present.

Agatha Christie’s Detection Club

In 1930, Agatha Christie, Britain’s queen of crime, picked up her fountain pen to craft puzzles that hooked a nation. Her 66 novels, like The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, spun clever whodunit tales for a Britain craving smart escapes after the Great War. With Dorothy L. Sayers, she started the Detection Club, a secret group of writers using fountain pens to write mysteries that let readers play detective. In a 1930s world of jobless queues and global fears, Christie’s stories offered order, her pen a lifeline for fans seeking answers in a good plot.
