Working with the executors of Henry Simpole’s Estate, Conway Stewart are pleased to be able to offer a very limited number of pens made by Henry. All are originals from Henry’s own collection. He kept a number of pens in each edition for his own collection and for sale. The first pen to be launched is

The William Morris Pen...ONLY 5 Sterling Silver pens AND 4 Vermeil pens available!

William Morris

William Morris (24 March 1834 – 3 October 1896) was a British textile designer, poet, artist, writer, and socialist activist associated with the British Arts and Crafts movement. He was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production.

The William Morris Pen by Henry Simpole

Henry designed this pen to reflect the genius of William Morris using a leaf pattern inspired by the 19th Century English designer and master craftsman. This pen was launched in 2005

Each cap and barrel overlay starts as a flat sheet of precious metal, and every piece of filigree is painstakingly pierced by hand. The sheets are then formed into cylindrical shapes on steel mandrills before the Acanthus leaf pattern is freehand engraved on each piece - a highly skilled process that took many hours of labour by Henry.

Available in Sterling Silver or 23ct Gold-plated Sterling Silver

We are offering 2 versions of this William Morris pen – the silver version of which there are 5, and a 23ct gold-plated sterling silver version which is called a vermeil version of which there will be 4. All pens are hallmarked by the London Assay Office hallmarks as well as Henry's personal hallmark - his initials HCS. Each base pen is again made by Conway Stewart and fitted with an 18ct gold Conway Stewart nib available in a choice of widths, Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, to Broad, and we do offer the special nib option to grind these to an italic, stub or an oblique.

When originally released, an example of this pen was on exhibition at The William Morris Gallery, Walthamstow, London.

18ct GOLD CONWAY STEWART 2-TONE NIB

You may select one of our Conway Stewart 2-tone 18ct gold nibs to be fitted to your fountain pen. They have been acclaimed by many of our customers for their ‘smooth-as-butter’ writing experience and are available in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium or Broad widths.

FILLING MECHANISM

This pen has a dual filling system. It is fitted with a converter (reservoir) which allows the user to draw ink from a bottle or alternatively, you may remove the converter and use standard European ink cartridges. All our fountain pens come with 2 complimentary cartridges so you can start to use it immediately. If you prefer to use bottled ink, we recommend our own range of high quality ink, made in England and available in a range of colours.
