The Alan Turing 90 Computable Pen

The National Museum of Computing and the London Mathematical Society are celebrating the 90th anniversary since Alan Turing published in 1936 his paper "On Computable Numbers". A paper that changed the world.

The conference "Turing's Legacy and the Future of Computing" is taking place at Bletchley Park on 16 -18 September 2026 bringing together some of the world's top mathematicians, philosophers and computer scientists to discuss how Turing's original logic continues to define modern computing. Conway Stewart in association with the National Museum of Computing has launched the Alan Turing 90 Computable Pen to celebrate this event and there will only be 90 made. 

The Pen  - Limited Edition of 90

Engraved on the top of the pen is the conference logo with a portrait of Alan Turing and the words "Computable 90".

Made in England and based on the iconic Conway Stewart Churchill pen in Classic Black with Sterling Silver rings, the barrel is engraved with the sequence of prime numbers. The sequence begins with 2,3,5,7,11,13,17.. All numbers that are only divided by one and themselves. 

Around the wide sterling silver cap band are engraved the English Hallmarks to prove the purity and the pen's origin. To set this pen apart from any other pen is the special grey rings around the section and the cap top making this very distinguished. The limited edition number is engraved on the end of the barrel. 

Each pen comes with a certificate of authenticity and a copy of Alan Turing's paper "On Computable Numbers" published in 1936 in the Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society.

The Paper that changed the World

Alan Turing invented computer science by trying to solve a deep logic puzzle called the "Decision Problem" (Entscheidungsproblem), which asked if a mathematical method could automatically prove any math statement true or false. To tackle this, Turing's groundbreaking 1936 paper defines "computable numbers" to precisely describe what a human clerk following fixed rules could calculate. He conceptualised a hypothetical device now called a "Turing Machine". By defining the exact limits of what numbers can be calculated, Turing built the theoretical blueprint for modern computer science.

Each fountain pen is fitted with a large 18ct gold nib available in EF, F, M or B widths. 

The National Museum of Computing

This pen is brought to you by the National Museum of Computing based at Bletchley Park, England. An amazing museum which is home to the world’s largest collection of working historic computers; from the Turing-Welchman Bombe and Colossus of the 1940s through the large systems and mainframes of the 1950s, 60s and 70s, to the rise of personal computing, and culminating with mobile computing, the internet, video games, and robotics.
