Prototype of the Henry Simpole Plunger Filler Magna Overlay in sterling silver – Made by Roger Wolfe

British silversmith Henry Simpole made this beautiful overlay, and the British engineer Roger Wolfe designed and built the plunger filler mechanism based on the original De La Rue design using modern materials like aircraft quality silicone, and carbon fibre rods. 

THE PROTOTYPE

This is the actual prototype that Roger Wolfe made for himself, and which he is now selling. It will come with a letter of authenticity signed by Roger with copies of his original drawings. The design is perfect, and includes a cut-off conical valve that blocks the ink supply to the nib when the pen is not in use. The filling mechanism works via a vacuum and the pen fills with ink on the downstroke of the plunger when the silicone washer reaches the expansion chamber and the iconic "POP" can be heard.

The pen is fitted with an 18ct Gold 2-tone Onoto Medium nib.

Henry Simpole made the Sterling Silver overlay using the 6000 year-old ‘lost-wax’ process.

This Prototype by Roger Wolfe is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity, signed by Roger, with a copy of his original engineering drawings.
