WISE WORDS FROM A WISE MAN

Winston Churchill (1874-1965) will forever be remembered as the man who used his words to inspire the nation and bring about the wartime spirit that helped the allies win World War Two. His influence and bravado continues to inspire people all over the world – at Conway Stewart he’s inspired the naming behind two of our models, the Churchill and the Winston. Conway Stewart even provided pens as props for the 2017 Churchill biopic Darkest Hour.

In association with Churchill Heritage Ltd,  Conway Stewart has produced the Churchill Heritage Collection, a series of limited edition writing instruments with designs inspired by the words of the great man himself.  “All Will Be Well” is the first in the series.

A MAN OF HIS WORD

Sir Winston Churchill’s time as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during World War Two cemented him as one of the most significant figures of the 20th Century. One often associates the image of Churchill with a cigar or holding his fingers up in a V, along with the prevalence of his image, his wise words continue to ring true to this day.

“All Will Be Well” was a phrase Churchill used throughout his life – its origin perhaps lies in an Afrikaans phrase he learned from his time in South Africa which translates as “all will come right”. The most notable use of the phrase was on 9 February 1941 on a radio broadcast reply to President Roosevelt, Churchill said: “Here is the answer which I will give to President Roosevelt: Put your confidence in us. Give us your faith and your blessing, and, under providence, all will be well.”

A companion book accompanies each pen. Titled “All Will Be Well: Good Advice From Winston Churchill” the book includes 120 quotes, phrases and sayings penned by the former Prime Minister.

INSPIRED BY THE BEST

Based on the classic Conway Stewart Churchill design, all the pens in the Churchill Heritage Collection will feature a number of connections to Churchill’s great mind and personality. This first pen in the collection has an engraved barrel with the eponymous phrase “All Will Be Well” elegantly etched onto it. Below that is an engraved recreation of Churchill’s signature and the mark of pride that each Conway Stewart pen is Made in Britain.

Engraved on the top of the cap of all the Heritage pens is the iconic sketch of “Pug”. Clementine, Churchill’s wife, called Winston “my sweet pug” – as result, in their correspondence he often drew small illustrations of a pug. The illustration which features on the cap is taken from a letter sent to Clementine dated 1st August 1909, a facsimile of which accompanies each pen showing his handwriting in all its glory.

Each pen in the Churchill Heritage Collection comes in a replica red cabinet box which would have been used to transport his ministerial papers from home to the office. The lid of the red cabinet box has another one of his famous quotes, “I have always earned my living by my pen” – a sentiment which should inspire us all.

CHURCHILL HERITAGE COLLECTION

Produced in association with Churchill Heritage Ltd  which is a company through which the Churchill family distributes money to charities and good causes that keep alive the legacy of Sir Winston Churchill and the spirit of the words of wisdom he penned. Up to 20% of every pen sold goes to the Churchill Heritage to help organise events and education to keep alive the memory of Sir Winston Churchill and his wise words for future generations.

The Conway Stewart Churchill Heritage Collection will feature six models, each one inspired by a famous phrase of his and only 100 of each model will be made. Every pen comes with a certificate detailing the edition number.

Winston Churchill has long been an inspiration to Conway Stewart, but he’s not the only individual to lend their name to a model of ours – other notable people include William Shakespeare, William Wordsworth and Sir Walter Raleigh. Other iterations of the Conway Churchill model include the Turing-Welchman Pen, and the Lawyer’s Pen .
