The original Commander pen we launched in 2020 was in Classic Black & gold was a limited Edition of 100 pens and sold out quickly. It had been designed to celebrate and commemorate the achievements of those Royal Navy Commanders who served at sea during WWII, protecting vital convoys in the North Atlantic.
This new Commander pen is based on the same iconic Conway Stewart Series 100 which is a mid-sized pen launched in the 1950's with a gentle taper to the cap and the barrel which is known as the "torpedo-shape"; a reminder of the perils the ships faced every day as they crossed the Atlantic.
On the cap are three 23ct gold-plated Sterling Silver rings and the top ring has been hand-crafted to give the rope effect of the sleeve insignia of Commander RN. The middle cap ring is stamped with English hall-marks to show its quality and purity.
On the barrel, it is engraved with the Conway Stewart logo, "Series 100" THE COMMANDER, and "Made in England".
The top-mounted gold-plated clip allows the pen to sit low in a shirt pocket, making it a practical choice for everyday use.
Available as a fountain pen or a rollerball. The fountain pen is fitted with an 18ct Gold Conway Stewart nib (available in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium or Broad - which determines the writing line width).
Each pen comes in an outer box which also has the sleeve insignia of Commander RN on the lid and inside is a Conway Stewart black leather presentation box which also serves as a showcase pen stand for your desk.
The inspiration for making this pen came from Glyn L Evans, a member of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners, and an author of several books, including "The Maritime Art of Kenneth D Shoesmith".
Pens are handmade to order, so please allow up to 28 days for delivery.
